BT Tourism Tender Cards

In 1993, three years before British Telecom (BT) introduced the new chip based telephone card, BT contacted various telephone card manufacturers to tender for the contract to supply and produce The New BT Phonecard (pictured right). Nine companies responded and produced samples for the tender adjudication process. This webpage features the sample cards produced by Cowells Ltd.

Example C - COWELLS Ltd - Light green header, white strip and white margin around card.

Cowells Ltd submitted two identical sets apart from the finish (gloss and matt) and reversing printing on one set, while not on the other. The sets tendered are as follows:

1. Full set of six cards in matt finish; no reverse printing; not wrapped; not embedded. 40 sets of the six card design were submitted in total.

TTCC001 - Beefeater - matt finish - not reverse printed
TTCC002 - Finn McCool - matt finish - not reverse printed
TTCC003 - Scots Guard Piper - matt finish - not reverse printed
TTCC004 - William Shakespeare - matt finish - not reverse printed
TTCC005 - Welsh Folk Costume - matt finish - not reverse printed
TTCC006 - King Henry VIII - matt finish - not reverse printed

2. Full set of six cards in gloss finish; reverse printing on a white background; not wrapped; not embedded. 40 sets of the six card design were submitted in total.
